In this episode, we will discuss the untapped power of the smile and how it changes the world around you.
There are days when you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, got into a fight with a loved one or struggled through driving to work to a job you don’t enjoy, it can be a tough task to put a smile across your face when you’re feeling less than your best.
But when you choose to smile, positive changes start to occur automatically, both internally and externally. Great power lies in a random smile, so long as you choose to share it with the world.
I love smiling and I do everything I can to smile all the time even when I am feeling less than 120%. Smiling is my secret weapon and has been a key to my success as an entrepreneur, speaker and person.
Its great to hear people tell me; Hey thanks for brightening my day with that smile, your smile made me smile or you made feel better with that smile.
Well, when we make facial expressions like smiling or frowning, we’re essentially transmitting a packet of information that can be received, read and interpreted by others. By contracting or expanding our facial muscles in different degrees and combinations, we can produce thousands of different messages that provide cues to our overall emotional state, our short-term feelings about our immediate environment, our mental well-being, our personality and mood, our physical health, our creditability and whether or not we view others as being creditable.
To put it simply, people respond in kind to our facial expressions so why not make it a smile instead of a frown.
There are competing studies on the number of muscles it takes to make a smile versus a frown. No one can agree but who cares, smiling makes me feel a lot better than frowning.
